Let’s Talk About Stress
Understanding your own stress response - and how to soften it, gently.
Stress is something we all experience, but it shows up differently for each of us. What feels overwhelming to one person might be energising to another. Some people thrive under pressure, while others find even small stressors exhausting. There’s no right or wrong way to experience stress - your stress is your stress and how it affects you is completely personal.
Not all stress is bad. Eustress is the kind that gives you a little push, like the excitement before a big event. Acute stress is short-lived, like the rush when you’re running late. But chronic stress, the kind that lingers day after day, can take a real toll on both body and mind. It can weaken the immune system, increase inflammation and contribute to anxiety, burnout and even chronic illness.
The good news? Even small shifts can help you feel more in control.
One of my favourites is Constructive Rest - a simple yet powerful way to help your body unwind.
Just lie on your back, bend your knees and rest your feet flat on the floor. This posture supports your spine and allows deep tension to release. When you add slow, steady breathing, it sends a signal to your nervous system that it’s safe to relax.
Why Try This?
• Ease tension: The supportive posture helps your body soften and let go.
• Mindful reset: A few deep, slow breaths can move you from 'fight or flight' to 'rest and restore.'
• Small change, big impact: Just a few minutes can shift how you feel for the rest of the day.
Stress is personal and so is how you manage it. What works for someone else might not work for you. But simple moments of rest, breath and stillness can be a powerful place to start.
Not every answer has to be big or dramatic. Sometimes, lying down and breathing is enough. Go gently.
